Regional Assembly

Introduction

The biennial Regional Assembly, represented by all members directly, is the highest authority of the ICA Asia and Pacific (ICA-AP). The Regional Assembly, a central policy making and represent- ative body brings together all members once every two years, providing them a platform for discussing multiple issues concerning development and growth of co-operative organisations as well as opportunity for networking and forming alliances for mutual benefit.

The Regional Assembly plays a vital role in strengthening the democratic governance process of cooperatives in the region by building consensus on issues and approving the agenda after discussion to the satisfaction of all members. The first Regional Assembly was held in 1995 and the tradition continues since then. The Regional Assembly encompasses the Cooperative Forum and various events organized by the ICA-AP Regional Committe

9th Cooperative Forum

Introduction

The theme of the 9th Cooperative Forum, in solidarity with the theme of the International Day of Cooperatives (IDC) 2016, is: “Role of Coops in Sustainable Development & Growth”. This is a biennial event, organised in conjunction with the Regional Assembly of the ICA-Asia and Pacific. The Coop Forum brings together all stake holders for discussion and arrives at a decision on How to further strengthen the cooperatives business institution to attain sustainable development, assess

progress and emerging new challenges. Ministers, political leaders and experts from India and other countries will be invited as speakers and panellists at the Forum. The objective of the Forum is to initiate an open and high level discussion on the theme with a view to formulate concrete proposal/framework which will be conveyed/ presented to the cooperative network, national governments and UN agencies.
